THE LORENZO'S STORY
Lorenzo Constantini is a 20 year old young Italian who, until a few months ago, was spending his time between school (scientific A-level in 2013) and football, his passion. A passion which was soon starting to become a reality: to enter in the world of national football.
Until the day, when Lorenzo had to have a surgery following a training injury. Unfortunately, the preliminary analysis revealed something much worse. Lorenzo has got a leukaemia, one that has been stronger than any treatments such as chemotherapy, experimental ones and also his sister Roberta bone marrow's transplant.
His family has moved to Bologna where Lorenzo can be looked after by doctor Martinelli and his team. As of today Lorenzo has already gone through numerous treatments, many months have gone by and the prospect of a recovery seems far away.
The doctors who are following him along with the international scientific community believe that he could make a full recovery in Philadelphia, USA where the Professor Carl June is experimenting a new therapy which has already cured many patients.
It is called “CAR method” : some T cells will be removed from Lorenzo to be genetically modified, and then reintroduced 4 weeks later. These T cells, which are very strong and aggressive, are capable of recognizing ill cells and to target them, with a surprisingly high success rate.
Lorenzo should move over there as soon as possible in order to benefit from this treatment which in itself is free, however the hospital cost is $600,000.000 which his family cannot afford.
Tommaso, another young Italian man hospitalized in the same facility, already left thanks to everyone's support. He is now starting treatments that will, we hope, lead to his full recovery. That is also what we wish for Lorenzo, with all our heart.
We hope that this support can carry on and we believe that the life of Lorenzo will be able to resume where it left off.
We believe that his experience can represent a ground breaking precedent for all of those who suffer from the same disease.
We ask those of you who want to contribute to please reach out and make a donation, even a small amount. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will do everything to keep you informed in the coming days.
We are also available at any time to provide you with any additional information that you may want.
